Plante Moran

Tax Accounting Intern

June - August 2018 • Denver, CO

What I liked

I loved everything about my internship. The people who work at the firm made me feel welcomed right away and were always so helpful whenever I had any questions. The company itself truly does care about its employees and goes out of its way to make sure their employees enjoy where they work, which I did. I had such a good experience interning for Plante Moran that I find myself bragging about the firm almost every day. I would recommend this firm to anyone interested in public accounting.

What I wish was different

Nothing, my internship was everything I wanted it to be and so much more!

Advice

Be confident in who you are and be yourself in interviews and everything else will fall into place. The public accounting world is very competitive when it comes to internships. Not only do you want to let the firm know you are a good fit for them, but you want to make sure the firm is a good fit for you and who you are. Be true to yourself and make sure you know what you are looking for in an employer.

What I liked

I loved that I had the same experience as someone who was a first year full-time staff. I engaged within teams and my opinion was valued even though I was an intern. My partner also helped me explore areas of accounting that I wanted to learn more about. I always felt valued and didn't feel like "just an intern".

What I wish was different

Honestly, I loved my internship and the entire experience.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions. A new job is always a little overwhelming because everything is new. Everyone has been in your position, so do not be afraid to ask for help. Everyone at Plante Moran were willing and happy to help.

Audit Intern

What I liked

• The people at this firm are some of the most caring I have met throughout my recruiting process. • When they say “We Care” they truly do. Both in the communities they are in and about each other. • In addition, people working together to come up with solutions on complex situations is very evident. • They have the resources and lean in on one another to come up with these solutions. • Lastly, I’ve also enjoyed learning about the different service areas and office locations Plante Moran has to offer.

What I wish was different

• If I could do something different, I would have tried to be more thoughtful about learning what "my purpose" for the firm was during the internship.

Advice

• Try to ask thoughtful questions and get an understanding on who to go to for the questions you have! • List up your questions when working on a project, but also try to utilize the people put in place to help you.

What I liked

The culture was what stood out to me the most. Everyone genuinely cared about my success there and was always willing to help any way they could with my questions. I was given real field world and treated as a member of the team.

What I wish was different

There wasn't anything I would really change about the experience, but if I had to select one thing it would be for the internship to start a little earlier.

Advice

Ask questions! You are not expected to know everything when you come in so they are expecting you to ask a lot of questions.

Assurance Intern

What I liked

Plante Moran did well showing interns what a career in public accounting is like. We were kept busy and always had opportunities to learn something new. They also got interns into client locations for fieldwork and treated them as entry level associates.

What I wish was different

The location I was at is in the suburbs which is not ideal and would have rather been in the downtown Chicago office.

Advice

Go into your internship open minded and ask questions. This is the time to learn and ask. Also be honest if you do not know how to do something, pretending you know will only come back and get you later. But have fun and be yourself, half of the internship is figuring out if you fit in with the culture and could see yourself enjoying working there.
