Digital Archives Intern
THIS ROLE IS FOR FORDHAM COLLEGE AT ROSE HILL AND FORDHAM COLLEGE AT LINCOLN CENTER STUDENTS ONLY
The Bronx County Archives at The Bronx County Historical Society Research Library seeks an intern to assist with back-end aspects of processing archival collections and making them fully discoverable to potential researchers online. Under the guidance of the Society’s archivist, intern will help prepare finding aids and enter catalog records for recently processed archival collections.
Other responsibilities will include assisting with a long-term digitization project, locating and archiving born-digital material relevant to The Bronx, and entering metadata for all digital media. Due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, this is a remote internship. However, if the situation with the pandemic improves significantly over the course of the internship, there may be optional opportunities for on-site work at The Bronx County Historical Society. Intern, for example, might assist in physically organizing unprocessed archival material while following established professional practices to ensure long-term preservation of documents, photographs, and other media.
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include a strong interest and academic background in history, anthropology, sociology, theology, or related fields. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, a variety of social media, video conferencing apps (primarily Zoom), and Adobe preferred. Additional technical training in library information technologies will be provided over course of internship. Time commitments to be discussed between intern and supervisor. Most aspects of the internship will be time flexible and can be conducted at the intern’s convenience. Any virtual meetings with the supervisor will occur only during the business hours of the Society: Monday–Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.
