Newsroom Fellowship (Money-Media)

Ready to cut your teeth in a working newsroom? Money-Media, a division of the Financial Times seeks recent college grads interested in pursuing a career in journalism to join us.

What We’re Offering:
This is a full-time fellowship role, with benefits. We want people eager to chase the news and tell the stories most important to our readers.

No experience in the field? No worries.

We can teach you how to rip through the jargon and get to the heart of a story. All you need is to bring is a desire to dig, openness to learning and interest in pursuing a career in news.

And if you’ve never considered business journalism, tell us that, too! Many of us started the same way but ended up discovering something we never expected and sticking around a while.

What You’ll Do:
Money-Media fellows will rotate through different teams over the one-year, gaining exposure to various beats and editing styles.

Our reporters tell stories in writing, through video and graphics. We break news in our industries and dive deep, so you will develop skills in interviewing, parsing documents, producing hard news and crafting features. Reporters also travel to meet sources at industry conferences.

You will work with editors and attend team and company meetings. You’ll get clips, develop sources and see first-hand how newsrooms operate. In addition, you will meet weekly with a group managing editor for coaching or to discuss career or other questions you might have.

Who We Are:
Our titles target decision-makers at financial service companies, corporate directors overseeing businesses you already know, and design and marketing execs at leading consumer brands. We delve into issues that affect everyday people: saving for retirement, building personal wealth, choosing insurance. We also hold these business leaders accountable by examining whether they do what they say when it comes to fighting climate change, fostering diversity and inclusion and other initiatives addressing environmental, social and governance issues.

We write about the stories behind the businesses we cover, and the people that make them tick.
As part of the FT, Money-Media is well-resourced and belongs to a global network. In line with our commitment to diversity and inclusion, we encourage those with underrepresented perspectives and experiences to apply.

We are a company in growth mode, and frequently have new opportunities open. At the end of fellowship period, we would encourage fellows to apply for any open roles within our family of publications.

What’s Next?
If you’re interested, please send us a cover letter with explaining why this role appeals to you along with one short writing sample of 3 pages or less.
We are based in New York, but open to remote arrangements.
