Student Assistant Internship (Innovation & Engineering Services), Ref #5401

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be a US citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must be currently attending a New York State college, university or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State
• Must have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year’s worth of academic credits over a more extended period of time may qualify part-time students) OR currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program
• Must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or equivalent to a C.

Duties Description

WebNY is responsible for the overall development and delivery of public-facing websites for the state of New York.
WebNY must ensure that all websites for which it is responsible are functional, responsively designed, adhere to W3C accessibility standards, and are fully compliant with NYS standards and best practices. WebNY primarily utilizes Drupal to accomplish its mission, leveraging current technologies and industry best practices as applicable to improve service delivery.
Under the direction of ITS 3, this position will serve as a junior developer for WebNY and must be willing to learn coding best practices and work in an Agile Development team.

 Students must be able to work in a team environment, be ready to learn, and be able to research solutions to development problems. This is a head-down coding position in the development of Drupal Solutions with hands-on coding experience and career path opportunities.

Students should have the following skill set:
• Able to work with front-end web technologies using HTML and CSS.
• Basic experience writing code for web applications using Javascript and PHP.
• Use the Command line to engage in the build and server process, including Unix.
• Use an IDE (Visual Studio Code preferred.)
• Familiarity with a WCMS such as WordPress or Drupal.
• Estimate tasks and comfort committing to deadlines.
• Independently research technical solutions and communicate findings.
• Produce quality code at a consistent velocity.
• Find solutions with guidance from Senior developer monitors.
• Work in an Agile methodology and participate in all related activities.
• Upgrade, modify, and install Drupal Modules.
• Code custom Drupal Solutions to meet agency needs.
• Update the website to the latest Drupal Core Versions
• Apply security Drupal patches to websites.
