Roadway Project Engineer

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems’ Kansas City, MO office is seeking a Roadway Project Engineer who will work under the supervision of a licensed Profession Engineer. Projects include the design and preparation of plan submittals related to highway and arterial roadway design, complex intersection design, local roadways, site design, bridge replacement/rehabilitation, traffic design, multi-use paths, maritime, and drainage design for various DOTs and municipal agencies. The individual may also be called on to work closely with other teams on multi-disciplinary projects.  The engineer will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment.

 

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Assist in the design and production for civil engineering projects by applying basic civil engineering principles and procedures to projects
  • Work with the Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer as needed to complete assigned tasks
  • Perform engineering tasks related to the planning and design of transportation facilities. Duties include preparing engineering reports, performing engineering calculations and analysis, and furnishing technical documentation for design projects
  • Responsible as a member of the design team for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards
  • May be asked to participate in activities such as limited construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection
  • Comply with all company polices and standards

What you bring to our firm:

 

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited program
  • Ability to obtain Fundamentals of Engineering registration within 1 year
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and basic computer skills
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members

 

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:

 

  • Previous internship experience in civil or construction related activities
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred
  • AutoCAD, Geopak and/or Microstation working knowledge
  • EIT or EI license
  • Effective written and oral communication skills are imperative

  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
