Career Preparedness Coach
ABOUT THE ROLE
LOFT’s Career Preparedness Coaches plays a pivotal role in the success of the LOTF program, seeking a dedicated individual with a robust educational background and expertise in guiding high school students throughout their career exploration journey. Career Preparedness Coaches will assist high school students in applying to 4-year universities, community colleges, vocational trade schools, and internships.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
- History of Success: The ideal candidate has years of proven success guiding high school students with their chosen career path in a professional 1:2 setting with students.
- Relationship-Builder: Students coming to LOFT are looking for an adult they can trust and rely on. Experience with building adult-student relationships that build trust with a diverse range of students is critically important.
- Reliability and Consistency: It’s imperative that LOFT coaches are able to meet 99%+ of expected meetings on time and without a need to reschedule.
- Asset-Based Thinker: LOFT coaches see the best in students and deeply believe in the ability of all students to succeed when provided the right support.
THE EXPECTED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in education, psychology, social work or related fields
- Prior experience mentoring high school students with college, trade school, and/or internship application
- Experience working directly with adolescents (grades 11-12) and their families
- Availability to regularly provide a total of 10+ hours weekly
- Conversational to fluent in Spanish (not required)
- Proficient computer skills and an ability to learn and understand general technical requirements for the virtual platform
- A Laptop Computer is required for research and administrative task completion.
- Availability for in-person and virtual work, committing to a minimum of 1 Year for the academic year (September - June)
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist high school students in applying to 4-year universities, community colleges, vocational trade schools, and internships.
- Provide regular updates to the LOTF Coordinator on program status, students, mentors, and the mentorship program.
- Complete administrative tasks, including attendance tracking, documentation, and follow-ups.
- Research for internships opportunities, trade school, university college , community college , networking opportunities for the mentee.
- Administrative Task to be completed using your laptop computer.
- As time progresses, there is a gradual incorporation of additional responsibilities to enhance the scope and complexity of the role.
HOURS
- Availability for in-person and virtual work, committing to a minimum for the academic calendar year (September - June)
- Monday through Thursdays after school (2-6pm)
- 10 Hours Per week
