NYCEM Community Prep/ReadyNY Internship

Background: 

This position will support the Ready New York & Community Preparedness teams by identifying and developing outreach initiatives to organizations and individuals within diverse communities in New York City to establish leads and increase community engagement reach before, during and after emergencies. 

Description/Responsibilities:

  • Identify and engage organizations, communities, and area of low engagement to increase the reach of emergency preparedness material via presentations, fairs, webinars and trainings. 
  • Collect data and analyze results to create data-based visuals to share with community members of our impact. 
  • Learn, develop, and identify skills that support emergency response throughout NYC communities. 
  • Support with additional project regarding preparing New Yorkers for the heat and flooding impacts. 

Requirements/Special Skills:

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills 
  • Desire to serve with diverse communities 
  • Comfortable to engage with community members and staff Reliable and consistent presence on the Community Engagement team 
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Tools (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and other creative tools (Canva, Adobe, Photoshop, etc.) 
  • Comfortable commuting throughout the five boroughs via public transportation 
  • Fluency in one or more languages other than English preferred
