Job Summary:

 

The Department of Botany & Plant Pathology invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Research Associate position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.

 

This position is for a Research Associate in the Oregon State University Plant Clinic in the Department of Botany & Plant Pathology. The incumbent will be expected to be the primary diagnostician for the Clean Plant Network to be administered by the OSU Plant Clinic. They will develop and implement sensitive molecular technologies to detect plant pathogenic viruses in berries and other important crops grown in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.

 

Under the guidance of the Director of the OSU Plant Clinic the incumbent may develop novel molecular assays to detect viruses and supervise student employees in the plant clinic. They will also oversee the maintenance, testing, and distribution of the G1 plant accessions and OSU licensed berry varieties and the virus positive control collection. To be successful in the role the incumbent should have the ability to: 1) conduct molecular diagnostics of plant pathogenic viruses, 2) work collaboratively as part of the Oregon State University Plant Clinic, and 3) advance departmental goals in diversity, equity and inclusion.

What You Will Need

 

Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Botany, Biology, or related field.

Publication record in, or relevant to, Plant Disease Diagnosis.

Demonstrable commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

 

What We Would Like You to Have

 

Postdoctoral experience.

Expertise in virology

Molecular biology skills related to plant disease diagnosis.

Past experience in collaborative teamwork.
