Job Summary:

 

The Athletics Department is seeking an Assistant Coach Women's Rowing. This will be full-time (1.00 FTE),12-month, professional faculty position.

The Assistant Coach supports the administration and promotion of all aspects of the Oregon State Women's Rowing Program. Coaching includes instruction, mentoring and leadership as well as academic supervision of the athletes, program management for the specific area assigned and preparation of recommendations to the Head Coach and Director of Athletics. This position must adhere to the policies set forth by direct supervisors, Head Coach and Athletic Director, as well as Oregon State University, the PAC-12 Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Key Responsibilities

 

40% COACHING/INSTRUCTION

Provides consultation and expert advice to Head Coach and team members. Prepares, plans, conducts and evaluates practice sessions as directed. Teaches individuals and groups of athletes specific tasks and skills before, during and after practice, during season and off-season. Provides leadership and mentoring for team members as developmentally appropriate. Acts as a liaison with Academic Services staff and impresses the importance of academic success to all student-athletes. Assists staff with coaching of entire squad as directed by Head Coach.

 

40% RECRUITINGCoordinates efforts for off-campus recruiting and assists with on-campus recruiting. Prepares and distributes recruiting information. Makes phone/email/messaging contact with prospective student-athletes when appropriate. Travels as necessary to evaluate and contact recruits, which requires the employee to maintain a current, valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record. Coordinates mailing and e-mailing of recruitment materials to prospective student-athletes. Interacts with persons under 18 years of age in a one-on-one setting.

 

20% OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY HEAD COACHIncludes, but is not limited to: fundraising appearances and assist with fundraising efforts, assists with team travel coordination and hosting duties for home competitions, NCAA compliance paperwork, etc. Serves in a leadership role to promote participation in community service activities by student-athletes. Provides lead work (plans, assigns, and approves work) for student workers and interns as needed. Encourages and participates in activities that foster an environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and fosters a sense of belonging for both student athletes, student workers, colleagues, and all stakeholders.

 

What You Will Need

 

• Bachelor’s Degree

• Previous coaching experience (collegiate coaching preferred) OR Elite competitive experience OR collegiate Division I experience

• CPR/AED certification within 6 months of hire

• Strong organizational skills

• Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form

• Strong teaching skills

• Strong computer skills

• Proven excellence in problem solving abilities

• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing 50 lbs.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate in a manner that shows respect and inclusivity for student athletes, student workers, colleagues, and all stakeholders

 

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

 

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
