Legal Intern (OGC, GAL)

FERC’s General & Administrative Law section is seeking a talented Student Trainee (Legal) intern. This is an ideal opportunity for a student to acquire first-hand experience in an agency’s general law practice. Alongside experienced in-house counsel, you will have the opportunity to work on matters vital to the business operations of a federal agency, including:
· Conduct legal research on complex administrative law questions.
· Assist with constitutional law guidance and recommendations covering issues such as due process, freedom of expression, privacy, and separation of powers.
· Assist in processing Freedom of Information Act and Critical Energy/Electric Infrastructure Information requests, ethics concerns, and other matters.
· Provide legal support to the Office of the Executive Director, with respect to collective bargaining, investigations, personnel disputes, disability claims, and appropriations, among other issues.
· Draft pleadings and memoranda concerning litigation of legal disputes, including labor, Equal Employment Opportunity, contracts, torts, and other claims.
· Review deposition transcripts, assist with settlement preparation, document production, case analysis, and meetings with opposing counsel.
