South Bronx United uses soccer as a vehicle for social change, aiming to help youth build character, teamwork, and leadership skills so that they can succeed in education, careers, their community and beyond. South Bronx United strives to promote educational achievement, health and wellness, and character development through activities on and off the soccer field and to unite an incredibly diverse community toward common positive goals.
Please note- this is an unpaid, in-person internship opportunity
South Bronx United is seeking a College Prep Program Intern to support our college preparation initiatives from April to May. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in education program coordination and youth development within a nonprofit setting.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with our College and Career Success Director to drive meaningful outcomes.
- Support with outreach to students and their families to ensure student participation
- Provide administrative support such as preparing workshop materials, scheduling meetings, and communicating with students and families.
- Assist with organizing and facilitating college prep workshops for high school students.
- Build relationships with high school seniors and provide guidance and mentorship.
- Support the coordination of college visits and tours for program participants.
- Help maintain student records related to college applications, scholarships, and academic progress.
- Research and track college readiness resources, scholarship opportunities, and other relevant information for program participants.
Qualifications:
- A strong interest in youth development, education, school counseling, or social work.
- Enthusiasm with the mission of South Bronx United and the South Bronx community
- Interpersonal skills such as empathy, active listening, cultural awareness, sensitivity and adaptability
- Fluency in an language other than English preferred (many of our students may also speak Spanish or French)
- Experience working with diverse populations of students or volunteering in educational settings is preferred.
- Creativity and initiative in developing new ideas or resources are encouraged.
- Flexibility and teamwork are essential for adapting to changing circumstances and collaborating effectively with others.
Interns are expected to work in person at our 814 River Ave, Bronx NY 10451 office as well as at our SBU Academy located at Bronx Legacy High School (730 Concourse Village W, Bronx, NY 10451)
